Perhaps you remember the first “It’s A Small World” blog entry. Basically, here’s the abbreviated edition:
So Moonlight Kiss was just done performing at Hawaiian Brian’s Lounge and I was talking story with Jules - one of the lead singers. She told me how she grew up in Kailua and for a little while – around the same neighborhood that I grew up in. But I couldn’t place it.
That is until I asked Sally what Jules’ maiden name was. When Sally told me it was S., the immediately went on in my head. I asked Sally, does she have a brother named J.? And Sally replied “Yes”.
That’s when I realized that Jules was the little girl next door that I used to play with when we were growing up!

So after Paula and I started dating, I brought her over to dinner to meet my dad. She thought that he looked familiar. It took a couple days until Paula’s went on. She met him at a party at her good friend’s house before she met me. It turns out that Paula’s friends D. & D. N. (yes, twins) are nieces of my step-mother.

So on Saturday night, my co-worker, E.P. and her some of her friends joined us for a night of FunkShun at Hawaiian Brian’s Lounge. Sally was talking story with one of the girls, D.H. and it turns out that D.H. works right across the hall from Sally!

Another one of the girls recognized a guy’s name on the RSVP list. So I see M.H. in the bathroom and I tell him that one of the guests sitting with us knows him. That struck his curiosity so I take him over to meet her. Immediately, M.H.’s goes on and he remembers her when they used to work together at Longs.

So as I’m talking to my new friend and find out that she worked in the pharmacy, I mention that C.C. over there is a pharmacist. She looks at him, her goes on and she remembers working with him too!

It’s Monday and we’re at a Valentine’s Day lunch at work. I’m talking to E.P., my co-worker who joined us at Hawaiian Brian’s Lounge the other night and we’re talking about Kailua. She says that her cousin lives in Kailua. I ask who is that and when she mentions W.H. – yup . I tell her that her cousin and I were best friends at one time! W.H. actually emailed me shortly after I started blogging. I shared stories of how W.H. and I had our first taste of alcohol together – a 99¢ bottle of Boones Farm Strawberry Hill wine. And a cigarette that he stole from his grandfather.

So at the same Valentine’s Day lunch, I’m in line to get lunch and I start talking with another co-worker. I ask L.Y. where she graduated from and she said Kailua. Wow! What’s the chances that I’d meet an Asian who went to Kailua High School too – although we didn’t attend KHS during the same years. And she tells me how she grew up close to my old stomping grounds. What’s the chances?! So we’re talking about the old Kailua landmarks and stuff and I mention about the all the bands that are emerging playing the retro music and she says that her cousin plays in one of the bands. I ask her who is that and she says B.A. You got it – . I tell her that I know him and that they lived down at the dead end street in our ‘hood too. I remember because when I used to catch a ride to high school with my older brother, he used to stop to pick up B.A.’s brother, N.A.

A few weeks ago at work, one of the Tech support guys, L.M. mentions to me that he overheard me mentioning a birthday on January 14th and asked if that was my birthday. I tell him no, that 1/14 is Paula’s birthday. He shares with me that his birthday is on the same day too. When I tell him the year, he says his is on that exact day! So I ask him what high school he went to and he says McKinley. I tell him that Paula went to McKinley too. When I tell him her maiden name – I find out not only are they classmates but they know each other too.
So I get home and I’m telling Paula that this guy at work shares the same birthday as her. Before I could even tell her that they’re classmates,
– she blurts out “L. M.?”

The first time I met BananaFysh, I ask him his last name. Hmm, a good friend of mine is from Maui and shares the same last name so I ask him if he knows C.G. Turns out that she is his cousin.
